NC-052 Holds Awards Banquet

The Sugar Valley Composite Squadron hosted an annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, January 30, in the Blue Hangar at Sugar Valley Airport. This event honors the volunteer service and hard work of squadron members and is an opportunity to gather together with squadron members and families, along with CAP members from other squadrons.

After enjoying a lovely dinner, the keynote speaker, retired Brigadier General James Gorham, NC National Guard, inspired all with stories and wisdom that he learned as a sharecropper’s son, while in the US Army, and then as an officer in the NC National Guard. Following General Gorham’s talk, Lt Col Orgain proceeded with awards and promotions. A number of the cadets were honored for their achievements: C/2d Lt Emma Kinzel earned the CAP Billy Mitchell Award, the second Milestone in the cadet program, marking the completion of Phase II, the leadership Phase. C/Capt Christopher Herman received the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2017 Award, and the Air Force Sergeants Award went to C/CMSgt Trimble. The Air Force Association Award was given to C/CMSgt Ella Orgain, and the NCO of the Year Award went to C/MSgt Michael Herman. C/2d Lt Caleb Padiak received the Cadet of the Year Award for the squadron. The Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Cadet Medal went to C/TSgt Madelyn Ruperto.

The Core Values of Civil Air Patrol are: Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Volunteer Service. These cadets are learning how to put these core values into action with their families and in the community. Their efforts better prepare them for leadership roles now and in the future.
