The Farmington Volunteer Fire Department visited Sugar Valley Airport on Tuesday, 17 June 2014, to educate the Sugar Valley Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol about fire safety, including fire extinguishers and their proper use.

Brian Spach, assistant chief of the department, along with volunteer firefighters Robin Hamm and Brad Carter, conducted a 45 minute presentation in the squadron’s meeting room. In attendance were both cadets and senior members.

The fire department frequently conducts educational programs for school students, senior centers and others.

After the presentation in the meeting room, everyone went outside and the firefighters built a small fire. Each person–cadets and seniors alike–was given the opportunity to put out a fire with an extinguisher.
Lt Col Eric Orgain, squadron commander, and Assistant Chief Spach both agreed that this would become an annual event.
