First Meeting for Youth

First Meeting for Youth

9 Apr 2013

Tuesday, April 9, marked the first Civil Air Patrol meeting at Sugar Valley Airport in which aspiring cadets participated. They began physical fitness training, and at coming meetings will also be exploring leadership and character development, learning how to drill, receiving safety training, and learning about the many aspects of aviation and aerospace. A major focus of the CAP unit at Sugar Valley will be the development of the Cadet Program for young people, ages 12 – 18.

Four senior members at this meeting received the Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager Aerospace Education Achievement Award. Five senior members were promoted to officer ranks. Awards and promotions are activities that the cadets can look forward to as they work through the many training opportunities that they may be eligible for.

The Sugar Valley unit is actively recruiting senior adult members and cadets. Meetings are held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 – 8:30, and are led by Lt Col Eric Orgain, who directed the very successful Winston-Salem Cadet Program for the last five years.
