A Rich Tradition: CAP and Sugar Valley

A Rich Tradition: CAP and Sugar Valley

22 Jan 2014

In preparation for the squadron’s first Dining Out event on 14 January 2013, Squadron Public Affairs officer 2d Lt Joanna White and Capt Thomas White prepared a presentation on the story of the new Sugar Valley Composite Squadron, which has developed into a strong organization over seven short months.

Part of the secret might be a long tradition. Though there has not been a CAP unit in Davie County for some time, the Rowan-Davie Composite Squadron ran search-and-rescue and cadet programs here beginning in the 1960s. Lt Col James Williams, CAP, former commander of that squadron, presented Sugar Valley with a host of wonderful archive photographs and other memorabilia. Lt White and Capt White incorporated that history as they told the story of the new squadron’s development from the idea of a South Carolina cadet two years ago.
