During his visit, Maj Shuping talked with cadets and senior members about his commitment to be a resource to leaders from around the group. He also introduced a comprehensive safety inspection program, including new inspection procedures that will position squadrons to be safe all the time and successful in regular inspections.

Maj Shuping also joined Lt Col Eric Orgain, squadron commander, in presenting the Air Force Association Cadet of the Year Award to C/SSgt Benjamin Phillips. The AFA award recognizes exceptional service and leadership and is presented on behalf of the AFA’s national organization.

Maj Shuping’s command at Group 4 includes squadrons from the Charlotte, Statesville, and Winston-Salem areas and is the largest of NC Wing’s five groups. Civil Air Patrol’s group structure provides chain of command support to local squadrons in addition to shared resources for emergency services training, professional development, and safety and regulatory inspections.
