9 Senior Members earn Davis Award

3 Jan 2014

In June 2013, the “founding members” of the Sugar Valley Composite Squadron committed to get through Level 2 of CAP’s Senior Member Professional Development program by the end of the year.

Members of the squadron worked together to reach this aggressive goal. The group conducted multiple discussions of content from the Officer Basic Course to bring that online program to life, sponsored a Squadron Leadership School that served Sugar Valley members and others from around the Wing, and supported each other through an impressive effort to achieve technician ratings in specialty tracks.

Lt Col Orgain will present those members with their Benjamin O. Davis Jr. Awards during the squadron’s upcoming Dining Out. The Benjamin O. Davis Jr. Award, which is awarded upon completion of Level 2 of the senior member professional development program, honors the late General Benjamin Davis, a pioneering military officer who was the leader of the fabled Tuskegee Airmen during World War II and the first African American to become a general in the Air Force. Of CAP’s 35,000 senior members, about 670 earn the Davis Award each year. Receipt of the award and completion of time-in-grade requirements makes a member eligible for promotion to captain.
